Guide & Recommendations

Guide to Building your Own  Custom Set

If you are interested in buying and installing synthetic hair sets, then please read on as we have compiled an easy to understand guide to what to buy and understand what you want.

You can buy ready made sets but it is just as easy to buy customs hair sets and at no extra cost which will mean you get exactly what you want.  They will have a longer delivery time but worth the wait!

We recommend that sets are installed by a professional who can advise on the best methods for your hair.  We offer installs at our Studio in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire and we also offer mobile services across Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Monmouthshire & Newport.

Please view our colour charts before selecting products for your cart.  You will be prompted to choose colours, length, finish and additions if required when you add product to your cart.

So let dive in and work out exactly what you want:

*Please note that our recommendations are based on average hair thickness and coverage and you may require less or more depending on your hair.

DE & SE

DE= Double Ended

The Hair is installed at the centre point or off centre to create length variation.  It is approx 10mm thick, best installed away from hair line to create thickness

SE=Single Ended

The hair is installed by the loop at one end of the hair, still 10mm thick so lighter and best for the hairline as less weight tension and better movement at base for more natural look

Style

Choose from:

  • Crochet dreadlocks (backcombed & tightened/wrapped with crochet hook)

  • Smooth dreadlocks (twisted & sealed)

  • Braid

  • Fishtail

  • Rope braid

  • Chainbraid

  • Snake braid

  • Loose hair with either braid or dread at the install point

Length

The length I use is approx 60cm, but can be made shorter

Colour Blend

Colours can be blended to create a colour match to your hair or add accent colour.  Blends can be minimal to create a chunky colour block look or maximum blend to the colour look a full mix resulting in a different color.

View the colour charts before choosing hair extensions.

Finish

If choosing any loose hair, there is a choice of straight, wavy or barrel curl/ringlet finish

You can also add tinsel,  decorative threads & charms to most extensions

Sets & Install

Sets can be made up and these are classed as:

Peek-A-Boo set - Two rows at nape, best suited to long hair best made up of SE on bottom layer and sides and DE on rest of set

We recommend 4 SE bottom row and 5, 9 in total above on brickwork sectioning and 2 SE and 3 DE between the two SE ends on sides of head

Partial set - 3 or 4 rows , 16-20 in total at back of head from nape best made up of SE on bottom layer and sides and DE on rest of set

Full sets - 60-80 in total. We recommend leaving out a fringe or front section of hair for a more natural look, we do have a crochet method that can be adopted at the front for a seamless look but this needs to be done in the Studio.

We recommend installing using a blanket stitch at the base and gradually change to a braid or cross over install and secured with thread.  Elastic bands can also be used to hold in place but thread is better as it won't snap.  The longer the hair the better it is to use a majority blanket stitch as it is will compress more hair up near the install point.  The braid or cross over install looks more natural but the blanket stich is tighter and more secure.
